well, kudos to me for fulfilling one of my dreams. i have now officially been an instructor at the camp that has played such a big part of my life- this has shown me that yes, dreams CAN come true! i've had that dream since i was... 13? and it happened only 6 years later... hahaha....
so now onto my next dream/ goall/ ambition:
you know how we always see people on TV or even tourists going around backpacking and stuff? if i told you that's what i wanted to do, you might think that i'm just being influenced by the western culture or what i see on TV. i've had my doubts too.
but just recently i've decided that touring just won't cut it for me. our world is filled with different cultures. therein lies its beauty. the diversity that has branched out from a single species is so vast that it's hard to wrap one's mind around it. like the incas who lived up in the mountains in peru (or so i think, lazy to google), the nomadic tribes of china, to the colourful traditions of the Spaniards, the intricate choreography of French meals, the fast lives of the rich and famous in vegas - all these differ so much from each other. it's like- amazing.
oh to just be able to be among them for the atmosphere. of course i'm not saying that's what i want to do- the nomadic tribes probably wouldn't welcome a stranger in their midst, the incas are practically if not already extinct (only some of their culture remains) and i can't afford Vegas- these are merely some of the things that spark my interest.
more specifically i'd like to visit the mediterranean countries, where there's gorgeous weather and food and hospitality, and all of europe, and delve into their sub-cultures, and the other parts of europe less heard of, like ukraine, poland and all that, america of course, Japan, China, Korea(?) but all this not before conquering our own little corner of the world- South East Asia.
you might be wondering how i plan to support myself through all this? hopefully there are kind souls out there who would spare a few baht/ yen/ pesos/ renminbi/ dollars/ euro/ pounds in exchange for odd jobs.
of course this would mean for-going the chance to work and earn money. but is that really my dream- or the dream society has conditioned me to have? so many people walk around living out society's dreams- never realising their own. marriage and family and relationships are society telling us what to do. it also stems from our instinct to reproduce and leave a legacy behind in our children. i'm not saying that i don't want to, but not just yet.
back to my dream- travelling and learning about other cultures by immersing myself in them is and always has been a dream of mine that i had never realised. it had always stopped short at just "travelling". then i had to consider my reasons for wanting to do so- why spend money on something so fleeting? just for a few photos? seeing the sights? i want to know the people behind the sights.
it's not something that the media has influenced me to want. for a long time now i've been fascinated by what drives people to do what they do. different cultures have different norms dictating how they conduct themselves. nothing is ever what it seems to be. i'd wanted to start another blog with hard-hitting commentary of my observations on life, but it has been 3-years delayed now. haha.
so now i'm putting this out in the open. i'm afraid of jinxing it, but really, the only thing stopping me is myself. i shall wait to finish this degree, maybe work to earn the capital, hopefully that won't sidetrack me, and then set off on adventure. haha. =)

Love your post (:
Totally agree with you; merely travelling is so passe, though that is because it is what we can afford, money and time wise.
Probably start off with South East Asia, namely Bali, in the non-tourist areas. But I'll skip China, Korea and Japan and make a headway for the Europe countries first, coz I read about them so much.
My friend had backpack across a couple of places in China the whole of last November. I could get some tips from her. LoL.
I'm sure we could fulfill this dream, even if we're doing it separately (:
:)
i have a crazy friend who's going to go from NI to england cut across france.. to middle east then down to europe go all the way to south africa
